KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film is a highly elastic, solvent-free sealing compound on a rubber / bitumen basis. The material is weather and UV-resistant as well as root-growth inhibiting.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The substrate must not be wet. It can be dry or slightly moist. It has to be free of frost, grease, tar and oil and loose particles. Any protuberances must be removed. Edges must be broken (chamfered to approx. 45 degrees). Internal corners and wall/floor junctions must be profiled by installing rounded out fillets. The material can be applied on concrete, plaster, masonry, bitumen roofing membranes, metal, wood, insulation, porous concrete, asbestos cement panels etc..

SPECIAL FIELDS OF APPLICATION
Elastic waterproofing of areas with ground contact KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film is ideal for application over plaster or concrete, flush jointed masonry or KÖSTER NB 1 Grey. Voids, open joints etc. have to be closed prior to application e. g. using KÖSTER Repair Mortar. In the area of wall/floor junctions, on construction joints and especially in areas at risk of cracking, KÖSTER Glass Fibre Mesh has to be embedded into the fresh coating. Prior to backfilling, the coating has to be protected against mechanical damages, e.g. filtration fleece on drainage sheets.
The installation of a suitable drainage system is also recommended.
KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film is also suited for waterproofing floor areas with ground contact against rising damp. Infiltration of uncured waterproofing layers of KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film by water must be avoided. The exposure of the coating to stresses, e. g. movement, water etc., must happen only after the waterproofing layer has dried completely. On horizontal waterproofing layers, two layers of PE-foil are placed as sliding a layer before the screed is installed.

Balconies and terraces
KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film is especially suited for sealing balconies and terraces. Waterproofing into drainage outlets, around upstands and connections to gutters can be applied in one seamless application without complicated detailing work.
KÖSTER Glass Fibre Mesh should be embedded into the first layer of KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film over the entire area as well as at all connections. In cases of extreme movement of joint areas or wall / floor junctions, KÖSTER BD 70 Flex Tape K 120 is embedded. On top of the fully dried coating, two layers of 0.4 mm PE-foil are placed as separating layer. Then, a reinforced screed with a min. layer thickness of 3 cm is put in.

Application
Stirr well before application. A primer can be made of KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film and water in a mixing ratio of 1 : 2. It is applied with a brush in one well covering coat. After the primer has dried, the covering coats are applied. KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film can be applied with a roller, brush, trowel, paint brush or with a suited spraying device. Every coat must dry completely before the next coat can be applied. Apply at least 2 undiluted coats.

The KÖSTER Glass Fibre Mesh is embedded in the first fresh coat on the whole area. The mesh is painted over with a brush or a roller. Fresh coatings can be protected from rain by spraying on KÖSTER BE Rainproof. Good drying of the coating can only be warranted if the application temperature is min. + 5 °C.
KÖSTER KBE Liquid Film can be topped with other materials after 24 hours.
